Fishing Report for November 17th, 2006!

I hope all of my anglers have been enjoying the Fall Fishing. It has been a been warm, and we are getting our predictable Fall like conditions around the Keys here.

It is almost Winter Season, and I would like to tell my Readers, a Happy Thanksgiving, and hope you have a Happy Holiday Season. The fishing has been great!

I hope all my Readers and Anglers have had a Great Time Fishing and Had Some Tight lines.

Even though it is the start of the Autumn Season, it is Summer here in the Keys and feels like it. With temps being in the 80's and temps this week are going to be in the 70's, with lows in the 60's great for flats and backcountry fishing.

The winds have been great, and we have had our share of windy days too.

But on to the fishing report!

As I said, the fishing has been good, with the bite for the bonefish has been good, and has been good in the early mornings, and of course, just before sunset.

I like to thank George and Linda Elliott, they had been bonefishing on light tackle and they caught and released their first bonefish, both of them caught and released 2 bonefish on shrimp with 8lb. test, and had a ball with the runs and getting them to the boat. We had weight fish of 8lbs for George and 7lbs for Linda. Great job folks.

I would also like to thank would like to extend a thank you to some nice ladies who fished with us at the Marina, Shannon Watkins and Wendy Rutger, who fished for snappers this past week with Capt. Joe, we had a group booking, but the other team draw ill, and couldn't participate, but wanted to put the ladies in the fishing report, and they had a great morning with Capt. Joe. Thanks, Capt. Joe.

Also, on board the No Bones About It, was Lyle and Susan Brookes, from Pennsylvania, and we did a morning half for some snapper and bonefish, and caught and released several mangrove snapper, ladyfish, jack crevelle, and had a nice shot a bonefish, but we spooked the school out, and unfortunately, as we say, you only get one or two shots to our bonefish, and they are gone, and they proved us right that morning, but we had fun stalking those elusive bonefish.

But, I want to let everyone know we all had a good time and enjoyed having each and everyone of you all aboard our skiffs, and hope to see you all come back fishing.

We did have some abundant sunshine those days fishing, and a great time stalking those elusive gray ghosts.

The tarpon bite has shown up again, and some fish are still around the area bridges and channels, and they are finding some still in the Park.

Using crabs, and dead bait is the best early in the morning hours, and pilchards are being used for some evening trips.

Every year, I keep saying time surely does fly by and can you believe it, Fall has come and is on its way out, but we still have some great bonefish tournaments and winter tournaments available, so if your interested in tournament information or just coming down and getting yourself a fix on fly or light tackle, the Fall and Winter fishing, it is a great time for saltwater gamefishing.

That is the time of year when the flyfisherman and live bait anglers are battling it out with the big fish.

It never stops to amaze me the enthusiasm my anglers show whether it is on fly or live bait or even light tackle for our elusive bonefish.

Reports have been alot of anglers catching and releasing several big trout, jack crevelle, ladyfish, and redfish and snook in the park.

Using shrimp on Millie Bucktails is my best shot with either white hackle or brown bucktails tipped with a little shrimp. The redfish, and trout love that, and so do the ladyfish.

Overall, everyone had a great time and days some fun days filled with alot of fishing.

November and December the trout season is closed, but there have been some big trout in Everglades National Park, and we are getting ready for the close of the snook season, which ends December 15th, but there have been alot of snook and redfish being caught in the park.

Snook Season will be closed as I stated December 15th, but will reopen February 1st, and will be closed May, June, July, and August. So, lets get out there and get some of those strong snook on board and is fun on light tackle.

Patch fishing fishing should pick up immensely with snpper, grouper, porgies, sharks, and yellowtail being caught up on the patches of the reef with this cooler water coming in.

The water temperature still remains in the 80s, but the tides have been good in the early morning, and early evenings just before sunset.

Permit fishing has been fair, using small crab, and crab flies, jigs tipped with shrimp, and shrimp.

There are many anglers here from all over the world, challenging their skills from fly to light tackle, which is wonderful to see them enjoy and learn new skills.

Whether you challenge your skills on fly or live bait or light tackle, it is great fun to be out in the sun, and releasing some really big fish from all the different species.

Fishing Report for May 1st, 2006!

Well, its is Spring here in the Keys and feels like Summer. We have had some great days on the water, and I hope all my readers and anglers had a great Time Fishing.

The wind has been a bit tricky this past weekend, but should be laying down by mid-week, and the warm up is on the way.

The fishing bite has been a bit slow for tarpon this weekend, but a few have been caught and released at the channels and bridges, along with sharks, and barracuda.

Every year, I keep saying time surely does fly by and can you believe it is Tarpon Season.

That is the time of year when the flyfisherman and live bait anglers are battling it out with our big fish.

It never seizes to amaze me the enthusiasm my anglers show whether it is on fly or live bait or even light tackle for our elusive bonefish.

Our weather has brought down drones of the Snow Birds, which is great to see, and it is already Spring Break.

Our weather has been in the lower 70's and 80's with some light winds, and we have had a few mild cool fronts this past month, but May should keep the bite interesting. Beautiful Sunny days and Warm Afternoons.

Reports have been alot of anglers catching and releasing several nice trout, jack crevelle, ladyfish, and redfish and some snook.

Overall, everyone had a great time and days with fishing.

I would like to thank Carl Applebaum and his friends for a great week of fishing, Carl and Leo fished with me their first morning, we did jump a tarpon, but he spit the hook, but the evening fishing turned out to be a great bite. Don, one of Carl's consituents, had a nice black tip shark on, and we decided to go hit another area for the tarpon, and Carl boated a beautiful 70lb tarpon, and the fight was a good one. They also caught and released several other tarpon, and sharks for the rest of their stay.

I would like to thank them all for their enthusiasm and great fun, and enjoyed having them aboard.

I also would like to thank Bill and Kathy Johnson, they went out with me and Bill and Kathy were patiently waiting for the tarpon bit early in the morning, we had tarpon all around us, but Bill did have a bite, but again, those Giant Silver Kings got the best of us, by giving us a great jump and spitting the hook, but the bite had slowed down.

We did an afternoon trip, and Kathy had a great barracuda hit, and using 8lb test had a great fight, and as we were getting ready to boat it, it too, bite through the line, as I grabbed the leader, their teeth are as sharp as a knife, and on 8lb test, was a gratification to see him released for another day of fishing. We also which was the greatest part of the day caught and released a beautiful 11lb bonefish, and what a run it gave me, on 8lb test. It spooled at least 200 yards of line in less than a minute, and was not going to stop for anything, or anyone.

We managed to palm the spool to gain some line on this elusive bone, and he contiuned to take line, but after a good 25 minute fight, had succumbed to the reel and angler, and here came the most stalked and sought after gamefish, a Big and Beautiful Keys Bonefish. 11lbs, what a whopper.

We continued to flyfish and light tackle fish, and one of the most prominent days to where we saw over 150 bonefish, herds and herds of bonefish.

But, I was very happy to see the Johnsons enjoy their morning and afternoon trip on the water.

Hope to see you next season, Bill and Kathy. Enjoyed having you aboard.

The bite has surely picked up for the bonefish. Several schools are being sighted now with the warmer weather, and the fish are being presented on fly and live bait on light tackle.

Bridge and Channel fishing has been good, with catches of jack crevelle, snapper, and some snook also a few tarpon are being sighted at the main bridges and backcountry, the best bite is in the morning and evening.

Snook Season is closed May, June, July, and August, and will reopen Sept. 1st.

Trout Season is finally open, so make sure you enjoy a day in the backcountry for those delicious trout, and have a great lunch or dinner.

We should have a great start to some of this Spring and Summer Fishing Action.

Patch fishing fishing should pick up immensely with spanish makerals coming in, and nice schools on the patches for bluefish also has been reported, and porgies, grouper, hogfish, and snapper.

The water temperature still remains in the 70's, but the tides have been good in the early morning, and late evenings just before sunset.

You and your friends and family are not far from the Best Saltwater Action around!

Remember the snapper that you catch, has limits, so make sure you take just enough for a good lunch and dinner, and have fun with your rods bending on the rest.

Islamorada offers some of the Best Saltwater Gamefishing for anglers focused either for light tackle, live bait or artifical baits, or our avid fly anglers, now is the time to be doing your bookings and hopping on the band wagon for some a great time and action, for the morning bite and evening bites.

Fishing Report for January 3rd, 2006!

Well, its a brand New Year, and hope all my readers and anglers had a great Holiday Season.

I cannot believe, we are a few days into January, and the fishing has been great!

We have had some cool weather at the end of December, but has warmed up nicely for the brand New Year!

I think we all say, time Has certainly gone by quickly.

The weather we have had, has been a few cold fronts and warming back up, and another mild cold front on the way.

I would like to thank The Dann Family, we had a great group go out last week, and had terrific fun in Everglades National Park for the week.

First I would like to thank Monica, Jackie, and now a new angler Samantha for a great day in the backcountry.

We had caught and released several trout, jack crevelle, and lizardfish. Samantha was new to angling in the backcountry, but became a pro by days end with 75 trout, and her Mom and Grandmom had there fair share of trout also. We had 3 generations of woman aboard, that goes to show you all, woman too can catch them all up. Great job Samantha! Thanks to you Monica and Jackie, hope to have you ladies all back again.

We also had the Dann family back the next day, with all Cousins aboard for another wonderful day in the Park, and would like to say thank you to Jesse, Stephanie, and Madeline for another great time in the backcountry with several catches and releases of trout, sheepshead, and some jack crevelle.

Madeline ending up being the trout queen of the day, beating past big sis Stephanie who furiously tried to keep up with Maddie, and cousin Jesse, definitely caught up by days end. What a great time we all had, and certainly enjoyed having them all aboard.

Girls, you can see your pictures up on the Scrapbook with all the your great catches and releases.

Also, would like to thank the Lyman men for coming aboard and doing some bonefishing with me. The water was still a bit too cool for our bonefish to bite, but Eric is a persistent flyfisherman, along with his Dad, Tom, and had done some great fly casting, and did catch some jack crevelle, and ladyfish on the fly.

Eric, is a great flycaster, and his Dad too. They would like to come back and try for our Giant Silver King, and our Elusive Bonefish this Spring. Keep on practicing Eric, and you will be sure to land your big fish this Spring. Thank you for a great time.

But, all in all, everyone had a great time and days with fishing.

Thanks to you all, I really enjoyed having you all aboard, and hope to see you all soon.

The bite is sure to pick up for the bonefish. Several schools are being sighted now with the warmer weather, and the fish are being presented on fly and live bait on light tackle.

Bridge and Channel fishing has been good, with catches of jack crevelle, snapper, and some small snook in the evening for the bite, on the outgoing tides.

Backcountry fishing has been a bit of variety, the waters are still very dirty with the wind conditions we have had in the last few weeks. But, reports of trout, ladyfish, redfish and snook have been reported, but is still slow.

With this approaching cold front, this should move the fish to an even better bite. Especially the backcountry species.

Snook Season closes December 15th, but will reopen on February 1st.

Trout Season is finally open, so make sure you enjoy a day in the backcountry for those delicious trout, and have a great lunch or dinner.

We should have a great start to some of this Winters Fishing Action.

Patch fishing fishing should pick up immensely with spanish makerals coming in, and nice schools on the patches for porgies, grouper, hogfish, and snapper.

The water temperature still remains in the 70's, but the tides have been good in the early morning, and late evenings just before sunset.

Permit fishing has been fair, using small crab, and crab flies, jigs tipped with shrimp, and shrimp.

Flyfishing has been tough with the wind, just making it a bit uncomfortable for anglers trying to cast to those bonefish, but by late morning the fish have pushed off to deeper waters.

It is a true rush. I cannot describe the feeling, until you actually hook up. But, let me tell you, that it is one of the most fasinating, and intriguing experiences you could ever have, whether on fly or light tackle, it will have your heart racing, and have a lump in your throat, and a smile on your face, when you hook up! There is no screaming, just your elated face and excitement watching you have the hook up of your life.
